What Counts as a Liability?

There are a number of different conditions which may be considered as liabilities to insurance companies. Some of these conditions include heart attack, stroke, leukemia, a history of cancer (not counting family history),diabetes, and angina. All of these conditions can be reoccurring or consistent, which is why they may be considered major liabilities to some insurance companies. Guidelines about all of these conditions that are considered liabilities will vary according to company, so if you know that you might have one, you should check out the different guidelines and requirements of several insurance companies. Why Does it Matter?

To some insurance companies, these liabilities matter. However, to others, they do not matter as much. Some companies may not even want to allow you to use their group term life insurance policies knowing that you are a major liability to them. On the other hand, some companies will give you term life insurance knowing that you are a major liability to them. A lot of the time, you might need to pay a much higher price than you normally would have had to with some of these conditions for certain insurance companies. According to what insurance company you have your policy with, you might be required to follow certain guidelines that have to do with your health. For example, almost all insurance companies require you to not smoke. Some may require you to not drink or do any other type of activity which could be hazardous to your health. Before deciding on what insurance company and policy you want to use, make sure that you find out about all of these guidelines. If you are someone who is a chain smoker and is not willing to give it up because of your insurance policy, you should consider maybe using a different company. Remember that if your company finds out that you are not following their guidelines, they will drop you.
